Barber is your haircut Headquarters

By CHUCK BALLARO ( , North Fort Myers Neighbor

Headquarters, located at the Merchant Crossing Shopping Center, just a few doors down from Planet Fitness, offers all the traditional barbershop services.

Only open since September, Headquarters offers everything from haircuts to shaves.

Mat Pantaleon had been working as a barber at numerous shops in Cape Coral since 2006 and briefly co-owned another shop in the city, Elite Barber Shop.

"My wife finished school for nursing and we decided to further my career as a barber so I opened up my own shop," Pantaleon said.

The name came about when they were searching for a name for the main place to get a haircut. Headquarters seemed like the perfect title.

The shop started out strong and has remained so as the snowbirds have arrived. It provides specialty haircuts and has proven popular with seniors.

"We've been getting steady walk-ins and we see new faces every day as well as repeats," Pantaleon said.

Also popular are the razor shaves, the best shave a human being can get, using a straight blade, old-school style. They last longer and your face feels smoother. The cost is $10.

A hot-towel shave and a haircut is $30.

"Not a lot of shops offer them anymore. We offer it as well as razors around the edges so they last longer," Pantaleon said.

Haircuts are $10 for seniors and $12 for kids and $15 for adults. It also offers cleanups for people who come frequently such as business people and those who just like their hair short.

Pantaleon is ready to create specials such as Warrior Wednesday, where he will offer $3 off a haircut to veterans. He also offers appointments to keep the wait time down.

There are currently three barbers and six chairs, Panlaleon said he hopes to have all the chairs filled before too long.

Headquarters is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed Sunday and Monday, though he did offer service on one Monday when the weekly Cruise-in was happening, which has brought extra business.

The problem is finding enough people to dedicate to being there on Sundays or Mondays, when many barbers are closed. For a barber, that would mean a six-day week.

"We have a friendly staff. I like to encourage families to come in. We like cutting kids and we're patient with them. We don't just service older men," Pantaleon said.

The shop is at 15201 N. Cleaveland Ave, No. 955, North Fort Myers.
