Perry Plumbing takes pride in workmanship

November 27, 2019

Perry Sisson has worked as a plumber in Southwest Florida since 1976, and, after many years working as a franchisee, he decided it was time for him to work independently again.

Perry Plumbing was born from efforts with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, for which he said he was a franchisee for a decade.

"We had a 10-year contract and we went the full shot. And did what we were supposed to do. When the contract was up for renewal, we decided we didn't want to do it and went back to being an independent," Sisson said.

So the man known as Perry the Plumber decided to forge a new chapter by starting Perry Plumbing, which he said has allowed him to charge less for services.

Sisson said he basically has a three-person show: himself, his helper and Carolyn Graves, who answers the phones and keeps the books.

He also has a truck with the Perry Plumbing logo and a cartoon plumber who looks nothing like Perry.

Sisson said they do all the work plumbers do such as fix leaks and unclog drains and water heater installations and repair.

But the biggest thing they do, he said, is go behind do-it-yourselfers, handymen and even other plumbers who didn't do the job right the first time, he said.

"People have already paid someone to do this and now they're paying someone again. It's shoddy workmanship," Sisson said. "It used to be that handymen would be the only ones doing manufactured home plumbing, and that's where the problems start."

Sisson said he enjoys his work and enjoys working hard, which he said is key to success in any trade, as it is a good way to make great money.

Much of the work Perry Plumbing does is to repipe manufactured homes. This time of year represents its busiest time as the snowbirds return south. While Sisson said he doesn't want to be known only for that, it's basically what he is, since he's done it for so long.

"The neat thing is that I can go into any mobile home community and not get turned away because I have a good reputation. If you don't, they won't let you through the gate," Sisson said.

Perry Plumbing can be reached at 939-1929.
