Motorplex handles big engines

March 27, 2019

A North Fort Myers automotive shop has carved out a specialty by going big.

Ron and Leslie Siegle own the Motorplex shop at 2721 N. Tamiami Trail, next to the Shell Factory. It specializes in engine rebuilds on anything from large diesel engines to small truck motors.

When a diesel shop can't do the work needed, Ron is who they call. They don't really do much routine automotive work, but rather take on the 18-wheeler rigs, big farm tractors and some smaller. There is nothing Ron can't do in regards to rebuilding an engine.

Ron, who has been working on engines since he was a kid, started in the business in 1974 in Indiana and moved to Florida in 1999 before opening his current shop in 2002 when everyone up north retired.

"Business has gotten steadily better. The shops have gotten to know us. We have a fast turnaround time and great machines," Ron said. "The newer engines are a lot more complicated, but we can do just about anything with them."

The company has also worked on the engines of generators that are in the area hotels and some that are more than eight-feet long and have to be brought into the shop with special equipment.

As far as prices, they depend on the scale of work and the age of the engine. But they can run into the thousands, Ron said, as parts can be very expensive. He said some of the parts can be repaired or even fabricated in shop, particularly the antiques.

Ron met Leslie while on vacation. And they were married in 2011, with Leslie becoming a partner in the business. She helped get Motorplex into the North Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce, and recently hosted an after-hours event there.

"We really want to give back to the community and we really like North Fort Myers. This is a good location for us because we serve from Sarasota, to Immokalee and into Naples," Ron said. "There are a lot of good shops, but we can handle the large diesels and have qualified people."

Motorplex is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for more information, call 995-0910.
