Former candidate reports dismissal of charges; asks for investigation related to arrest

To the editor:

I would like to address all my friends and supporters. It has been a long process but my false arrest on burglary and assault or battery is over. Charges in the false first-degree felony of burglary were dismissed by State Attorney in a few weeks. The assault or battery for party crashing were dismissed by a pretrial diversion.

With 46 years in the teaching profession in the Lee School District, and my former students well into their 50s, it is important for me to have my good name restored to me. The school district quickly reinstated my ability to substitute teach and various other entities have lifted any arrest-related restrictions.

I am happy to report this incident will not be disregarded. Mayor Coviello indicated he will meet with me and Chief of Police Newlan would like to investigate the matter. I will do this soon. I am not taking the violation of the First and Fourteenth amendment rights lightly. The social and local media's assumption of me was I was guilty till proven innocent. It cost me my election for the Lee School Board District 4 seat.

I want to thank the Cape Coral Breeze for printing my earlier statement concerning this matter before the election.
