The third annual Cape Coral Charity Car Show benefiting the Cape Coral Caring Center will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at Jaycee Park on the Caloosahatchee River from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The show is sponsored by the Cape Coral First United Methodist Church as part of its community outreach program.

More than 200 cars, tucks and even boats will be on display throughout the day.

"We're raising the bar with the addition of some classic boats," said emcee of the event, Phil Deems. "They're not something people get to see all of the time. We have a few rare, older models we think will be another great attraction. A lot of people who are into cars, are into boats as well."

The Cape Coral Charity Car Show is open to all makes and models of cars and trucks. The show is designed for family fun with a deejay playing '50s and '60s music, food vendors, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Goody bags and dash plaques will be given to the first 100 show cars, and over 40 trophies will be awarded.

"The is the biggest car show in the history of Cape Coral," said Deems. "This is a nice, family event-and this year we are honoring our military and first responders."

There will be a presentation at noon to honor local military groups, with music and pageantry that follows suit.

"People that are into cars will love to come out and see what we have," added Deems. "It's a nice venue, walkable with great entertainment and professional food vendors. We have a little bit of everything for the whole family."

Last year's show raised more than $22,000 to support the Cape Coral Caring Center, with this year's goal to raise over $30,000.

In 2018, the Cape Coral Caring Center served over 12,000 people and provided 145 tons of food to those in need. To address changing dietary needs of the elderly and disabled, the Caring Center has committed to providing food consistent with special diets where possible. Their first client for this new program has renal disease and is on dialysis and was overwhelmed to be able to receive the food she needed for her specific diet. Examples of other clients with special dietary needs are people with diabetes or cancer.

"While these programs are expensive, doing what we can to keep these people healthy is good for all," said Executive Director Julie Ferguson said in a prepared statement.

For every $1 donated to the Caring Center, their buying power enables them to purchase the equivalent of $8 worth of food.

Beyond providing food, the Cape Coral Caring Center has always tried to help people get jobs. Assistance with resume building and transportation by giving people a 31-day unlimited bus pass to help with job searches have been strengthened by the addition of JobLink. This is a Goodwill program that was active in the Cape four or five years ago and helped 40-50 people a month find work. The JobLink program is now housed at the Caring Center in the afternoons.

Another new program being offered is Financial Health, a fun and interactive program that helps people work through their credit and budgeting issues.

Gold Sponsors presenting trophies this year are The Gunterberg Charitable Foundation, O'Reilly Auto Parts, Swift Print Service, Sam's Club and The News-Press.

Other trophy winners will be selected by the more than 30 local business co-sponsors who are supporting the show in-cluding: ACRA Electric, RE/MAX Realtors, Affordable Roofing, Diamonds by Diane, Pizza Hut, Roto-Rooter, Schiff Realty, Family Hardware, First Class Air Conditioning, Fish Window Cleaning, LCEC, and Waste Pro.

The event is free, with a parking donation fee of $5/car.

Exhibitor and vendor information is available at www.CapeCoralCharityCarShow.com or by calling Bob at 239-549-5592.

There will be a $20 day of the show entry fee(for show cars).

Jaycee Park is at 4125 Southeast 20th Place in Cape Coral.
