Elks Lodge No. 2742 to celebrate 30 years

October 24, 2018

Elks Lodge No. 2742 had reached a tremendous milestone, one they will celebrate in hope of fixing damage done by Hurricane Irma last year.

The Elks Lodge will hold an open house on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its lodge on 2163 Twin Brooks Road, off of Bayshore. Proceeds will go toward repairing roof damage caused by the storm.

The open house will also serve as a membership drive, according to John Henderson, who is organizing the event.

"That's why we have events like this. We'll also try to have things for the kids," Henderson said.

It is sure to be a day filled with fun, with the Lee County Sheriff's Office police dogs and horses, clowns, a vintage car display, bake sale, a fire truck from the North Fort Myers Fire Dept., a crafts sale, a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and much more.

There will also be a cookout featuring burgers, hots dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and potato salad. Tony Blake will provide the music from 1 to 4 p.m.

There also will be a Chinese Auction, featuring donated items from than 30 companies from North Fort Myers and Cape Coral, Henderson said.

The Elks Lodge started in 1988 and has grown to around 600 members and is looking for more.

"It's not like the VFW or American Legion. Anyone can join. We have eight people being initiated this week, so membership will go up," Henderson said. "During season, we'll really go up when the snowbirds come. Since we're all over the nation, if you're a member in Chicago, you just show your card here and you're welcomed in."
