Shell Factory goes BOGO in September

The Shell Factory & Nature Park has not changed the way it's doing things just because it's summer and the snowbirds have flown home.

The historic attraction has continued its Cruise Nights every Thursday and Bike Nights on the third Thursday of the month and the thrice-weekly flea markets.

But with fall coming, the Shell Factory has decided to get a head start by going BOGO in September, with many attractions being buy-one-get-one free.

Anne Sheridan, general manager, said it's the first time the Shell Factory has done this.

"We're doing this for items all over the property. Not everything in the store will be BOGO, but select items will be," Sheridan said. "If you see a big balloon, you'll know that's it."

There will be more than 100 daily BOGO items in the store, including collectibles, gifts and more, and BOGO pretzels from Gulf Coast Fudge Co. and 10 percent off at Subway.

There will also be three different daily BOGO specials and specialty drinks at Capt'n Fishbones and BOGO admission in the Nature Park and Fun Park packages which features admission to the Nature park, mini golf, mining rig, trampoline, a $5 arcade card and the choice of bumper or paddle boats or water wars.

There is live entertainment daily, with the Del Prados coming on Sept. 15.

Sheridan said the main idea is to bring people in during one of the slowest months of the year as kids are back in school and the tourists haven't arrived yet.

"Our locals deserve to get a treat from us. So we're treating them and thanking them for all they do for us," Sheridan said. This is going to be perfect for us and its our way of giving back."

This will all lead up to the start of the season, with the second annual Nam Jam slated for Oct. 14, which Rick Tupper said is expected to be among the biggest events of the year.

"We're going to have Gen. Dozier here and we're going to have a virtual Vietnam War Memorial wall," Tupper said. "People are going to be able to walk in and pull up their buddy's name and unit. It's online and people don't really know about it."

The Shell Factory is at 2787 N. Tamiami Trail.
