Dina’s at Sabal Springs off to fast start

It seems as if many new restaurants in the area open in the spring or summer as a way to get all the kinks out so they're fully prepared for the next tourist season.

The latest restaurant to follow that trend is Dina's, which opened last month in the Sabal Springs community at 3410 Clubview Drive to great reviews, and with a huge community surrounding it, it should continue to excel for many years to come.

It also doesn't hurt when you get named the "Best of North Fort Myers" less than a month after opening.

Jim Lee, general manager at Dina’s at Sabal Springs at 3410 Clubview Drive.

Jim Lee, general manager of Dina's, came from running Capt'n Fishbones at the Shell Factory to manage Dina's. He named the restaurant after his mother, Donaldina Cameron Wong, who herself was named after Donaldina Cameron, a woman who helped save many Chinese immigrants in the 19th century who became indentured servants to build the railroads.

Dina's was formerly Anthony's on the Green, which was operated by the person who owned Anthony's on the Boulevard in Cape Coral. When he left, the restaurant was without an operator until Lee stepped in.

Immediately, Lee got to work on bringing in customers by keeping prices low while serving amazing food.

"We've had a lot of positive feedback. We've kept the prices reasonable and the quality of food is excellent," Lee said. "People are very happy with what we've put out there."

Dina's has a special pretty much every day, with 50 cent wings on Monday, Taco Tuesday with $3 Margaritas, and an Italian buffet on Wednesday with a pasta station for $12.95.

Thursday is $10 baby-back ribs, with Friday being an all-day fish fry. Sirloin Marsala for $10.95 is Saturday and of course Sunday brunch for $12.95.

With all these specials, Lee said there really isn't one specific signature dish. Everything speaks for itself.

"Every night we have the specials, we focus on that. The fried fish is very popular and the Sirloin Marsala we had at The Shell Factory," Lee said. "We do everything as well as we can, so people love the various items."

There is also music nightly from local performers.

While Dina's gets a good amount of business within Sabal Springs, many from outside have been coming as well, thanks to a billboard on U.S. 41 for those headed south. Lee said he expects to put another one northbound.

Dina's is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day except Sunday, when they close at 7 p.m.
