The Lee County Arts Center of North Fort Myers is starting to get off the ground and, starting Monday, will offer its first arts class fundraiser.

The Arts Center is partnering with the Sewing Boutique which will host this class on Monday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at its location at 13500 N. Cleveland Ave. at the Hancock Bridge Square Shopping Center.

Renowned artist Sunny Lee will teach the watercolors and acrylic beginner art class.

Lee will feature a demo and then the class will paint the same picture and the students' works will be critiqued.

Maryanne Howard, president of the Lee County Arts Center, said even though they are in the beginning phase of this project, they are excited to offer the first art lesson fundraiser for the center.

"If you don't know anything about painting watercolor or acrylics you will learn the basics at this class. You never know if you are an artist in the making," Howard said. "Let's make the Arts Center a reality for the people of North Fort Myers."

Howard said the arts center is looking to build a permanent facility and it's a good opportunity to come out, support your local arts center and have some fun at the same time.

No supplies will be provided. Students must bring a large garbage bag, paints, brushes and canvas/paper.

The cost for the class is $25 and pre-registration is required. Members will get a 25 percent discount.

The Arts Center is also looking to raise money with a table at the flea market coming to Marinatown on April 21.

The arts center was founded in June and grew quickly. It has filed papers to become a 501 c 3 non-profit. The goal is to raise $500,000 to purchase land and put up a building.

In the meantime, they will look for a Realtor to help find a temporary site at which to hold classes, performances, shows for all sorts of media and more.

The store next to Daddy Dee's Ice Cream has been mentioned as a possible location.
