Liar and Chief

By Staff | Mar 1, 2017

To the editor:

In the Feb. 5th edition of one of the local newspaper’s editorial section a writer went on and on about the reasons we should all worship at the feet of the Great Wizard of Trumpland. I’m sure Trump would be glad to hear these praises bestowed on him by this writer. The thing that is bothering me is why can’t all of the other Trumpees and Trumpettes see right through this pathological liar we elected as President? Now folks, let me tell you that I didn’t just fall off of a turnip truck. I’m here to tell you that all politicians lie from time to time. Here’s just a few of the most memorable: Reagan and the Iran-Contra affair, HW Bush and his “read my lips” comment, Bill Clinton with his worst moment when he said under oath “I never had sex with that woman” and then there was George W. Bush, looking directly into the camera with that little smirk on his face and telling the entire world Iraq had weapons of mass destruction in their arsenal. And finally, Obama saying “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

If he, that would be Trump, isn’t lying to our face then I must say he and his staff are the greatest manipulators of the truth known to mankind in the history of the world, except, of course, for the worst of them all, Adolf Hitler. The righties have even invented a brand new term to define their lies. That would be “alternate facts,” Kelly Anne Conway’s term not mine. How wrong is that? Or maybe you would prefer “fake news.”

In the real world that I live in, two plus two equal four every time, not so much in theirs. Much to Trump’s dismay, we have video and audio taping abilities in this world of Twitter Trump is so devoted to. Please note that in this alternate universe of Twitter Trump lives in, the truth is not a pre-request to making comments.

When we were all in the campaign season that fact was never really accepted, but sort of OK – this guy is just shooting his mouth off. Right? However, now that he is the President of the United States of America, things have taken an infinitely more serious matter. Whatever, whenever and to whomever he says something about, is taken as the truth and the confirmed position of the United States. This is where the rubber meets the road. I am without words to explain why his supporters and the entire US Congress hasn’t come out and condemned not only his behavior, but his conduct and his words. Which are all unbecoming of our leader.

Why can’t they see right through this thin-skinned, ego maniac’s rhetoric? If we are to survive as a nation they must wake up and put an end to Trump’s armagenton policies.

On an ordinary day in our news cycle some very boring information is spoken or written about in our very real world, but not lately. Thanks to this year’s ring master, the liar and chief. Take the famous presidential news conference Feb. 16 as an example of this guy’s MO. Mixed in with all of the lies, misstatements, insults and put downs that flowed from his venomous mouth he had the audacity to claim that his administration inherited a mess and has replaced it with “a fine-tuned machine.” Nothing could be farther from the truth. His only answer to the most serious charge of communicating with Russian authorities before his administration was officially in office, which is a federal crime, was that it was “a ruse” promoted by the fake news agencies of this country.

Any excuse will do with this clown.

Again I must ask, what has happened to the moral compass of our great nation when the truth can be eviscerated and replaced with a lie and 60 million people will buy it?

This can NOT happen!

Think about it my friends, the truth and nothing but the truth is the foundation of our free world since the Ten Commandments were handed to us by God himself. “Thou shalt not bear false witness upon thy neighbor.” I’ll ask again of the 60 million Americans who support the liar and chief, how can this happen? How can you knowingly realize that this carpet bagger is a pathological liar and not call him out on this most serious charge? Don’t you realize the great harm he is doing to our nation’s credibility that means you and me.

Personally I am outraged. Why must I, as a good, hardworking, honest American be forced to answer to my friends and family for this sycophant’s lies? What’s worse than that, you Trumpsters are sitting around defending him and his lies, saying “let Trump be Trump.” Can’t you see that’s the heart of the problem? Donald J. Trump is a liar. You can’t get around that fact with all of the lipstick in the world. How in the world can we run an honest, democratic government when its leader and all of his minions are unabashed, bald faced liars? Sorry folks, it can’t be done. This has been a problem; it is a problem and will be a problem of epic proportions.

I sincerely hope and pray we will be able to survive this latest assault on our democracy.
