It hasn't always been easy, but Bayshore Truck & Auto, at 6371 Bayshore Road, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. And they plan to commemorate it in grand fashion.
On Saturday, the business will hold a customer appreciation day to tie in with the anniversary, which will include live music, food and perhaps even a ribbon cutting.
Owner Charlie Porter bought the shop, which had specialized in dump truck repair just before the bottom fell out of the economy in 2007.
Somehow, with the help of God and that big truck lift they had, they were able to survive, with last year being the best to date, Porter said.
"Thanks to the Good Lord and the bank, we have things worked out and finally got put on payroll," Porter said. "Last year was the first summer where we didn't have to batten down the hatches. But we made it okay."
Bayshore Truck & Auto has won North Fort Myers Best of awards for best transmission place, but it is really a full-service repair shop that does everything from air conditioning and brakes to tune-ups and oil changes.
They are a NAPA certified shop with certified service technicians in what Porter called a neighborhood shop.
Porter said he would have Butch Heath and Yesterday's Country Band perform live and NAPA suppliers will set up a tent for burgers and dogs. There will be giveaways with prizes supplied by vendors and for services.
Porter said he is looking to contact the Chamber of Commerce to possibly hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening, as Porter is a member.
"It's a customer appreciation event. We have so many loyal customers we wanted to show our appreciation while our winter residents are still here," Porter said. "As for a ribbon cutting, maybe I'll get a big pair of scissors and do it myself."
Bayshore Truck & Auto is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 731-6868.
