Help is needed for annual letter carrier fod crive

The 19th annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive of the National Association of Letter Carriers will be held on Saturday, May 14. Letter carriers throughout Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties will be collecting non-perishable food that has been left by mailboxes. All food collected will be distributed to local participating non-profit agencies at no cost.

Here is how you can help with the food drive:

? Snowbirds can leave their extra food at any Post Office; it will be saved and included in the May 14 food drive.

? Businesses can set up collection boxes for employees and customers who may not be able to leave food by their mailboxes on May 14.

? Volunteers are needed as drivers to assist letter carriers on May 14. Contact Debi Mitchell in Lee County, 573-9638, or Jesse Costin in Collier County, 537-0020.

? Volunteers are needed to assist with preliminary food sorting on May 14. Contact Bedzaida Bryen at Harry Chapin Food Bank in Lee County, 334-7007, or Collier Harvest at 455-3663.

Virtually any kind of food may be donated in unopened, nonbreakable containers. Items especially in need are peanut butter, tuna, rice, beans, and canned meats, fruits, vegetables, and soup.
